What you'll do Reporting to our Head of Dispute Resolution and Employment, you will be our employment lawyer prioritising South East Asia and wider international employment work.
You will prioritise employment/HR support across the full lifecycle of people related issues, including: hiring structures, recruitment, visas, policies, agreements, documentation, investigations, employee relations, grievances, whistleblowing, anti-discrimination law compliance, responding to employment authorities, team moves, restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, terminations and post-termination restrictions.
You will attend local courts and tribunals relating to labour disputes in your jurisdiction.
You will conduct negotiations with external parties and manage litigation cases.
Depending on interest, you may secondarily support on general disputes internationally, including listings, intellectual property, financial, commercial, corporate, criminal, liquidation, compliance, law enforcement and consumer disputes.
You will help lead our efforts to manage external law firms including their engagement, review of work, approval of fees and on-going case management.
Engage in training for the company to increase legal awareness throughout the organisation on how to manage people risks.
What you'll need Graduated with a common law degree from a reputable university.
Qualified Hong Kong or Malaysian employment lawyer with 3-6 PQE legal experience principally focusing on employment legal work (both contentious and non-contentious).
Experience from reputable law firms and, ideally, also reputable in-house organisations.
Based in Hong Kong or Malaysia with the local right to work.
Start-up experience is preferred, especially demonstrable experience in handling complex legal matters in fast-paced and exacting situations.
Has the ability to work independently, take ownership of work and make tough decisions.
Excellent legal drafting and interpretation skills.
Excellent command of written and spoken English, and business proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is strictly required due to some key stakeholders only conversing in Mandarin Chinese.
Ability to quickly adapt to using MacBook, Google Drive and internal IT platforms for work purposes.
