Location: New York, United States (Hybrid)
Hybrid | Full-time
Compensation: $180K - $320K
We are hiring on behalf of our client, a leading firm operating at the intersection of advanced financial markets and digital asset infrastructure who is seeking a skilled Infrastructure/Backend Engineer to join its growing technical team in New York City. Operating in a hybrid capacity with a heavy emphasis on collaborative, in-office presence, the employer provides a state-of-the-art trading and data ecosystem that processes tens of billions in cumulative volume.
In this pivotal role, the successful candidate will spearhead the modernization and scalability of a high-performance infrastructure layer. This individual will focus on migrating systems to a robust, ultra-low-latency infrastructure stack built entirely on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles. The primary objective is to build an advanced, reliable, and secure self-service infrastructure platform that empowers developers to manage deployments, monitoring, and provisioning independently. This position requires an engineering mindset rooted in institutional financial systems, elite operational excellence, and high-velocity problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Migration & Optimization: Drive the comprehensive migration of applications and core services from legacy systems to a highly resilient, modern infrastructure stack.
- Platform Self-Service & Orchestration: Mature and scale internal testing and validation tools, including local stack orchestration frameworks, allowing developers to execute applications flexibly and coordinate multiple automated agents simultaneously.
- Latency Reduction: Collaborate closely with application engineering teams to optimize critical-path applications, identifying and resolving software and infrastructure bottlenecks to minimize latency and maximize financial edge.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Maintain, deploy, and manage 100% of the production environment utilizing IaC methodologies, ensuring absolute consistency, visibility, and automation across all layers.
- Security & Reliability Engineering: Actively identify, mitigate, and minimize security attack vectors; coordinate contained chaos-engineering tests and system stress-tests using automated testing suites and advanced technical tools to guarantee maximum uptime.
Technical Foundations
- Trading Industry Pedigree: Strong professional background within traditional trading firms, market makers, proprietary trading shops, or institutional financial services.
- Orchestration & CI/CD: Expert-level proficiency with Kubernetes, including deployment best practices, cluster management, networking, and access control. Hands-on expertise with ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, and Docker is required.
- Infrastructure as Code: Proven experience as an IaC evangelist utilizing Terraform to manage complex multi-environment architectures.
- Backend Development: Strong proficiency in writing, optimizing, and maintaining backend systems and critical-path microservices using Golang.
- Data Architecture & Observability: Production experience managing high-throughput databases such as Postgres and Clickhouse. Comprehensive familiarity with Prometheus and Grafana for full-stack observability, alerting, and metrics collection.
Professional Characteristics
- Security-Minded: A proactive approach to zero-trust architecture, security configuration, and continuous system hardening.
- Advanced Tool Leverage: High proficiency in leveraging advanced AI and development tools effectively—possessing the technical depth to rigorously validate outputs, establish guardrails, and avoid passive code generation.
- Solution-Oriented & Autonomous: Ability to independently audit the existing stack, identify operational gaps, prioritize tasks based on commercial value, and execute solutions.
- Collaborative Rigor: Strong alignment with a "disagree and commit" philosophy; maintaining a team-first mindset that prioritizes collective execution and continuous cross-functional learning alongside quantitative researchers and operations teams.
Location & Availability
- Must be located within commuting distance of New York, NY, and prepared to work onsite in a hybrid structure that includes up to 5 days a week in the office based on business requirements.
