About the Role
You will lead and scale the legal function, hire and develop legal talent, and establish effective processes, automation, and operating standards. You will own legal strategy, lead IPO preparation, personally manage consequential negotiations and decisions, advise executives and the board, oversee legal risk areas, and manage the legal budget and outside counsel.
Requirements
- Substantial experience advising high-growth technology companies in-house or at a leading law firm
- Track record of hiring, developing, and leading high-performing legal teams
- Deep expertise in commercial negotiations, corporate governance, and financings
- Experience building legal processes that improve speed and quality
- JD and active bar admission
- California bar admission preferred
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow the legal team
- Build company-wide legal practices, processes, and escalation paths
- Establish and manage SLAs for contract reviews and legal requests
- Track turnaround times, backlog, and outside counsel spend
- Automate repeatable legal work and apply AI tools with appropriate safeguards
- Lead legal preparation for an IPO
- Build public-company governance, disclosure, and legal infrastructure
- Lead complex commercial negotiations
- Advise the executive team and board on financings, transactions, equity compensation, governance, and legal risks
- Oversee employment, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, and disputes
- Own the legal budget and outside counsel relationships
