Requirements: — Relevant educational qualifications in law, finance or a related field.
Professional certifications in AML, compliance, or risk management (e.g., ACAMS, ICA, or equivalent) are desirable. — Must meet the FCA “Fit and Proper” criteria for holding Senior Management Functions (SMF16/17). — 7+ years of experience in AML, financial crime, and regulatory compliance within the Payments, E-money, or Crypto-asset sectors. — Experience in cross-border compliance programs and global regulatory frameworks (FATF, EU AML Directives, OFAC, UN sanctions). — Experience in cryptoasset, fintech, or cross-border digital financial services businesses. — Deep understanding of UK regulatory requirements, including the Money Laundering Regulations (MLRs), POCA, and the FCA Handbook (SYSC/COND). — Hands-on experience with transaction monitoring systems, KYC/CDD platforms, and crypto-AML tools (such as Chainalysis, Elliptic, and SumSub). — Expertise in Blockchain-specific AML/CTF risks, including wallet screening, on-chain transaction monitoring, and VASP-related compliance. — Experience in preparation and submission of SAR to the NCA/FIU. — Practical experience in designing, implementing, and enhancing systems and controls in a regulated environment. — Experience in drafting and maintaining policies, procedures, risk assessments, matrix, management information, and governance materials. — Ability to engage credibly with senior management, escalate issues appropriately, and provide clear, risk-based recommendations and constructive challenge. — Strong judgment and the ability to assess complex or high-risk matters. — Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities: — Act as the MLRO and Compliance Officer, holding ultimate accountability for the UK branch’s financial crime and regulatory compliance frameworks. — Establish, maintain, and enhance a robust, risk-based AML/CTF framework proportionate to the business model, ensuring alignment with UK regulatory requirements and the firm’s risk appetite. — Provide regular reporting to Senior Management and the Board, including the production of the Annual MLRO Report assessing the adequacy and effectiveness of systems and controls. — Manage regulatory engagement, serving as the primary point of contact for the FCA and other relevant bodies, while ensuring timely implementation of new regulatory developments. — Oversee the end-to-end financial crime lifecycle, including business-wide risk assessments, CDD and ongoing monitoring processes. — Manage the investigation of suspicious activity, ensuring the timely and accurate submission of SARs to the NCA/FIU. — Implement specialized controls for blockchain-based services, including crypto-specific transaction monitoring, wallet screening, and the mitigation of risks unique to digital assets. — Supervise sanctions screening and PEP controls, ensuring robust detection and escalation protocols are in place. — Provide independent challenge to the First Line of Defence (1LoD) to ensure risks are appropriately identified and managed at the business level. — Monitor outsourced providers to ensure third-party compliance with the firm’s standards and regulatory obligations. — Drive a compliance-led culture by implementing effective Management Information frameworks, governance structures, and clear escalation paths.
